With more than 17 years’ experience and full public liability insurance, I undertake routine trimming, shaping and larger hedge reductions. Smaller jobs are charged from £25 per hour with a minimum two-hour booking. Larger work is quoted according to the hedge’s length, height, condition, access and the equipment required.

Some formal hedges benefit from more than one trim during the growing season, while others need less frequent attention. The timing and frequency will depend on the hedge species, growth rate, condition and the result required.

Wildlife-Aware Working
Hedges are checked for signs of active bird nests before cutting. If an active nest is found, work affecting it must be postponed until the nest is no longer in use.
The main nesting period is commonly considered to run from March to August, but birds can nest outside those dates. The presence of an active nest—not the calendar alone—determines whether work can proceed safely and legally.
Our Hedge Cutting Process:
Step 1: Assessment and Quote
I assess the hedge’s length, height, species, condition and access before agreeing the work. Larger or taller hedges may require platforms or separately hired access equipment, which will be reflected in the quote.
Step 2: Cutting and Shaping
The hedge is trimmed or reduced using equipment suited to its size and accessibility. Care is taken around nearby plants, structures and boundaries, although the final shape and amount of reduction will depend on the hedge’s existing condition.
Step 3: Clearing the Cuttings
Cuttings are gathered and the immediate working area is left tidy. The preferred waste arrangement is agreed during the estimate and may include composting on site, using the customer’s brown bin, leaving material in reusable bulk bags or separately priced removal.
